When are Town elections held?

The Round Hill Mayor and Town Council elections have traditionally occurred in May of even-numbered years. The Virginia State Code gave towns an option of passing an ordinance to change elections to even-numbered or odd numbered years in November. However, in February 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed Senate Bill 1157, which requires all Virginia towns to adopt an ordinance specifying that all municipal elections scheduled after January 1, 2022, be held in November.

Following a public hearing on April 7, 2021, the Round Hill Town Council adopted an amendment to the Town Code that changes the Mayor and Council elections from May in even-numbered years to the November general election in odd-numbered years. The term for the Mayor is two years and the term for each Council seat is four years.
