Lead Service Line Inventory

Get The Lead Out

The Town of Round Hill Utility Department is currently in the process of completing a Lead Service Line Inventory to identify any water service lines that may contain lead components within it’s service area. This inventory will verify both the portion of the service line owned by the Town of Round Hill as well as the customer-owned portion.

All public water systems in Virginia  are required to conduct an initial inventory survey by October 16, 2024 for submittal to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water. This will act as a major first step for future lead service line replacement in the Town of Round Hill. The vast majority of homes in the Round Hill water service area were constructed after the Virginia 1986 ban on the use of lead piping, meaning there are only a couple hundred of homes that will need to be verified. Many of these homes built prior to the 1986 lead ban have already replaced their lead lines on the customer-owned portion.

Since the start of 2023, the Town has worked diligently using accessible records to identify customers who can be confirmed as not containing lead service lines. Currently, there are 210 Round Hill Utility customers who's homes were built after 1986 and cannot be completely verified as not containing lead material based on the information available. Just because the Town has been unable to completely verify a service line through the lead service line inventory thus far, does not mean it contains lead. It simply means the Town was unable to verify that a service line is, without a doubt, not lead from the accessible documents. The Town of Round Hill is now requesting assistance to verify the customer portion of the service line.

In order to make the customer verification process as simple as possible the Town has created an interactive dashboard. On the dashboard there is an interactive map that identifies individual customers who's homes have been determined as not containing lead service lines on both sides of the meter. This dashboard also contains additional information about lead service lines.

The interactive dashboard also contains a link to a customer survey that can be used by a property owner to verify the service line material entering the home. There are instructions connected to the survey to assist the homeowner or renter in identifying any service line entering their home. There is also an option of attaching a picture to the survey. This survey will be directly sent to the Town of Round Hill and will be used to update the Town's Lead Service Line Inventory.
